My heart is heavy, and I am filled with a mix of deep sadness, anger, and anxiety. If you look closely into Phoenix’s eyes, you can see the profound pain and suffering that abused and abandoned dogs endure. Her story will break your heart, but it is a truth that needs to be told.
Phoenix is the young pitbull we sponsored for surgery a month ago after she was saved by @healinghoundsrescue.  Just two days ago, we received devastating news: she developed a life-threatening infection, forcing her into another intense, emergency surgery.
Phoenix’s past is a nightmare. She was sexually abused by a human. Yes, this disgusting cruelty happens to animals every single day, and most of the time, the perpetrators face zero consequences. After surviving that trauma, she was left to be euthanized in a broken shelter system. While there, she was spayed, but the procedure was botched so badly by a negligent veterinarian that it nearly cost her her life.

I am so tired of this abuse. We sponsored her second surgery to fix the severe damage caused by someone else's horrific malpractice. These "professionals" get paid an arm and a leg to butcher helpless animals, and they should not be allowed to practice. Shelters must do better. They need to partner with private rescues who can provide professional, high-quality veterinary care. Something has to change. This is pure animal abuse, and none of it should have ever happened.
Despite everything, Phoenix is a survivor. She is currently recovering at Amore Sanctuary. As soon as she heals, she will finally begin the life she always deserved—one surrounded by safety, love, and absolute happiness.
